Presented is a very rare example of a 3rd pattern knife made by a little known company, Imperial Cutlery which operated in England. The knife is marked on reverse of the crossguard on three lines, IMPERIAL over GUDEDGE over CUTLERY CO. There are no other marks anywhere. What makes this knife unusual is the finely made, non-standard, hollow ground blade which is unique to this company. It has the original F-S Pattern 3 hilt with 27 rings, and pronounced bronze pommel nut. The hilt is non-ferrous metal and is either solid bronze or plated in copper. No scabbard is included.

 

The "GUDEDGE" mark, pronounced GoodEdge is found infrequently on post war F-S knives. Consequently, this may date from as late as the mid 1970's when it is said that the English Imperial Cutlery Co., not to be confused with the American, Imperial-Scharde Corporation of Rhode Island, took control of the Rodgers-Wostenholm group. They did not seem to hold control for long before this mark disappeared. Consequently, there are records of only a few examples of this knife seen.

CONDITION: This knife has very sharp fighting edges on its machine hollow ground blade. Everything is tight and it has only minor small spotting on its bluing and few imperfections. It has the original Pattern 3 hilt with 27 rings hilt. The hilt is non-ferrous metal and is either bronze or plated in copper. It is in overall excellent condition baring some minor paint loss. There is no scabbard.
