Presented is a guaranteed authentic 12 bolt,4 light
Morse Commercial diving helmet, Serial Number 1285 with all numbers matching even on all four brales. The
patina on this helmet is exceptional and ranges on the bonnet in shades of green from light to dark and on the breast
plate is in variations of deep reds . It is in outstanding original condition with all moving parts functioning except
for the front light. The only
modification to this helmet from
the original design is the addition of a communication fitting on the back.  Picture shows a
similar style helmet in
use
in the 1950’s by the past owner’s father.

Most Morse Commercial helmets have rectangular side lights in a horizontal
plane. The side lights here stand erect which sets it apart from the others. The front door is supposed to screw in and
out, but needs to be freed-up. The helmet comes from the family of a professional diver where it was for
the last 50 years.

Included is the maker’s “Certificate of Authenticity”

CONDITION and MARKINGS: The Morse name tag is
missing, but is on the brales. The number 1285 appears on the top of each brail (strap), and on the upper and lower
ring of the bonnet. A telephone box was added on the front left sometime in its life, and the speaker and ear
piece are present. The front door does not unscrew.
The air passages
are all intact. The chin button is in place and functions properly. The bonnet shows almost no dents with only
a few small dimples that add to its character.

PRIOR SALE: About a year ago we sold a rare Morse “Breast Feed“
version of this generation helmet with a serial number of 1362. It was dated by Morse as being made in 1912. It is pictured
here for the sake of comparison and is not included in this offer. It too was a remarkable helmet, but its brales and some
of its nuts were recent replacements. This one is all original.

HISTORY OF MORSE DIVING: In
the arena of deep sea diving, there are few companies with the longevity and history of Morse Diving.  The company
was founded in 1837 as a Boston maker of brass ware, three years before Englishman Augustus Siebe manufactured its first closed
air dive helmet. During the Civil War, the firm commenced building maritime fittings and began experimenting with early
underwater hardhat designs from Siebe-Gorman and other pioneering makers. In 1864, Andrew Morse bought out his partner, introduced
his sons into the business, and began to focus on creating new products for underwater salvage expeditions. Morse was
the first company to make the Navy MK V helmet, starting production in 1916.  As their expertise and experience grew
over the years, they developed a worldwide reputation as a major supplier of hardhat diving apparatus.
