U.S. NAVY
Anchor Bell
Smaller Presentation Size

divisor line
Presented is a “Foredeck” bell with all the design characteristics
of a “mill-spec” U.S. Navy bell, but it is slightly smaller in size and weight and has no branch of service markings.
The clapper is of the proper military design, and is fitted with a fancy ropework bell rope. The bell was recently polished
and lacquered, and comes mounted on a custom stand suitable for presentation.

Bells of this unique Navy design are
very rare, and we have not seen one of this size before. Their vertical bracket allows them to only be mounted on a pedestal
or deck, hence they are known as anchor or foredeck bells. The bell and its bracket are mounted on a custom made knotty Pine
stand which makes a dramatic display.

The tone of a proper Navy bell is exceptional with a strong resonance that once
heard will never be forgotten. Do not expect cheap imitations to have this distinctive ring because “bell metal” is a specially
formulated bronze alloy for this highly specialized use.

VERY RARE U.S. NAVY ANCHOR ~ FOREDECK BELL Ca 1937

Presented is a very rare “Foredeck” which
is also known as an anchor bell that is in absolutely perfect condition, and made out of the finest of “bell metal”. The bell
with its original clapper, dates from shortly before World War II or earlier. The lack of bands at the top and bottom
identify the period in which the bell was cast. The molded in place USN marks it as an original and not an engraved copy.
Bells of this smooth sided design with a vertical bracket are very rare, and this is the first example that we have seen.

One of our customers, a retired Navy captain, who is
an expert on such things says, “Now this is a unique bell — I have not seen a smooth side WWII type bell with a mount
before — my guess is that this is a late 1930’s bell — just before WWII.”

The vertical bracket allows them to only be mounted on a
pedestal or deck, hence they are known as anchor or foredeck bells. The bell and its bracket are mounted on a custom made
Brazilian Mahogany stand for use as a dramatic display. The tone of a proper Navy bell is exceptional with a strong resonance
that once heard will never be forgotten. Do not expect cheap imitations to have this distinctive ring because “bell metal”
is a specially formulated bronze alloy made for this highly specialized use.
